EA Sports Debuts ‘Fun’ Tiger Woods Ad

Apparently one Tiger Woods sponsor wasn’t bashful about being linked with the embattled golfer.
EA Sports unleashed its “Tiger Woods PGA Tour ‘11″ commercial during the waning minutes of Game 2 of the NBA Finals. It was Woods’ second television ad (the eerie Nike/Earl Woods ad during The Masters several weeks ago was the first) since his infamous sex scandal became public back in late November.
Unlike the somber Nike ad, the EA Sports one was humorous and upbeat. Tiger storms out of a college football-type player introduction with his United States teammates taking on a European squad. Mike Ditka is the USA coach. And Tiger sinks the apparent game-winning putt to the roar of a “Happy Gilmoresque” crowd, all while doing his iconic fist pump as airline jets zoom over him.
Apparently EA Sports wanted to go with a lighter touch.
“It was time to bring some life and fun back into golf,” said Peter Moore, president of EA Sports told the Wall Street Journal last week. “It’s been a tough six months in the business of golf and with what went on with Tiger. It is time to lighten up.”
Although many of Woods’ sponsors hit the road while his sex scandal was unfolding, EA stuck with their man throughout.
